But it was a Friday night in a popular neighborhood, and there was the novelty of their opening night. Finding a table was a bit of a challenge, and the wait for food was a bit long. As I said, they seemed to have been caught a bit off guard by their popularity on opening night, and there was a line for the bar which moved quickly enough. There is also a wine list which I did not pay much attention to (it's a TAP ROOM afterall), I was surprised to find they had a few cocktails as well. The other two on tap (there are a few more styles still fermenting) included a very drinkable saison. The malty Vault Driver ESB had a wonderful malt-forward character with caramel notes, akin to a Scottish Ale. Even my wife liked it and she hates IPAs. Brian has successfully converted his homebrew recipes to a larger scale, and I especially enjoyed the Beebweepa IPA, which had lush grapefruit overtones without being overly bitter. They moved uphill to drier ground and a prime location on Falls Rd. After being washed out twice in their former location in the Jones Falls valley, they displayed a tenacity where others may have given up. I should have known they would get this right. I think that they too were not suspecting such a crowd! Started. I expected a soft opening of this new taproom, but on opening night I walked into a roomful of a couple hundred people enjoying wonderful locally-brewed craft beer and creative bar menu.
